“Hessen schafft Wissen” presents the degree programme “Body Sciences, Fashion and Aesthetics” at the Technical University of Darmstadt.
“From chemical reactions to fashion” – this is the first part of a portrait in which “Hessen schafft Wissen” presents the degree programme “Body Sciences, Fashion and Aesthetics” at the Technical University of Darmstadt. TU Darmstadt Professor Alexandra Karentzos, head of the section of fashion & aesthetics, and students have their say. Body sciences is a degree programme that prepares students for the vocational school teaching. The graduates in turn train hairdressers, beauticians or make-up artists one day. The degree programme is correspondingly versatile. In addition to pedagogical and didactic basics, it includes art, culture, politics, biology and chemistry. The focus is on the body, which is analysed from various perspectives in the natural and social sciences.
In three parts, “Hessen schafft Wissen” takes a detailed look at the various facets of the course. It starts with the section of fashion & aesthetics, which deals with body practices and their visualisation: How do ideals of beauty arise? Where do they come from and why? How are fashion, body, aesthetics, art and society connected? What cultural significance do items of clothing or hairstyles have?
The portrait on the study programme will be continued on 15th August and 12th September with contributions on the fields of biology and chemistry.
