iGEM an der TU Darmstadt geht in eine neue Runde!

2023/12/20

Dear Students,

after a two-year long break, iGEM is returning to TU Darmstadt for another round!

iGEM is the largest international student competition in synthetic biology (SynBio).Currently, more than 400 teams from across the world are participating yearly at the GrandJamboree in Paris. The TU Darmstadt has previously joined from 2012 to 2021 with greatsuccess. Now, we are going to assemble a new team for 2024, for which we are looking formotivated students from all fields of study with an interest in synthetic biology.

If you’re now asking yourself why you are reading this E-Mail when you don’t have any realcontact with (synthetic) biology, aside from the shared fridge in the student dorm, iGEMcould introduce you to the world of SynBio. Jokes aside, the competition encompasses morethan “just” the biological aspects stemming from the lab. The goal is to create a holisticproject which is of social relevance and the topics are basically without limits. The projectspresented in the final in Paris range from new therapeutic approaches to solutions forenvironmental and climate problems through to space applications. The projects are not onlyviewed from a strictly technical-laboratory perspective, but also in terms of, for example, entrepreneurship, stakeholder dialogue, education, software or sustainable development. Adiverse team is essential, especially for projects that are intended to have social relevance, andhere the perspectives that other disciplines bring to the team is invaluable. If you areinterested in taking part in an international student competition, why not come to theinformation event at the Botanical Garden Campus and see if it is something for you?

Our information event is being held on 10.01.24 at 5 pm in room B101 52. There you willlearnwhat participants can expect during the project work, how the team will be assembled, andhow much fun can be had in an interdisciplinary study project. After, you will be able to askprevious team members any questions you might have!

If you have any questions until then, you can contact us under .

We are looking forward to meeting you!

Best,

Heribert Warzecha and your iGEM organizational team
